Further Adventures with Annie Cosmic
Chapter One
Annie and I opted to sleep in.
As I was laying there holding her I started to think about how my family, my earthly family, we never held value to any personal possession for our entire lives. We bought and sold stuff and never gave it a second thought and by the end of each of our lives we were usually void of much ownership. It's just the body and the soul. I'm beginning to think that is exactly the way it should be. No attachment to anything that isn't able to show love back in a human or animal way. We even let the pictures go.
Annie must have slipped out when I drifted off again. She liked doing that. She was a very solitary person in the morning. She wanted to take a shower by herself and be able to walk around naked for a while and not be bothered. I would let her do that.
She knew I was the complete opposite. When taking a shower, the more the merrier. Get the dog and cat in there and walking around naked. I also didn't care who was around. Annie knew I liked taking showers with her and both of us walking around naked so she would do this for me occasionally, so, I would also give her her privacy.
Once she was done I would shower and we would begin planning the day.
Today we decided we would go to a little restaurant that just opened up out on the divide. People were saying it was quite the place to be.
For some reason I found myself filled with memories of all kinds. I remembered a time when my brother and I and his two boys were camping and nothing could have felt more right that that moment sitting by an open fire cooking hot dogs and roasting marshmallows and just enjoying the stillness of the night. All of the sounds, smells and sensations were acutely tuned into the being of our existence.
It's an insane irony how we directly effect each others lives in so many way. I will remember with a laugh what Tuck said about my family one day talking to his dad, my dear brother Jacob, “You know your family isn't very good at dying.”
So, Annie and I took off to find this restaurant that everyone was taking about. We were happy and enjoying the weather and each other.
Annie was driving a Mercedes that had been special ordered from Germany. Two seater with a hard top. Fucking amazing car. I never ask Annie why she was always driving a different car whenever she would return from checking in at the main office. I just assumed it was one of the perks of her job. My wheelchair barely fit in the trunk.
The restaurant was called appropriately “The Divide” because, well because it was sitting right on the divide between the worlds.
At first entry to the place Annie and I were a bit disappointed. It seemed like any other restaurant and the people all looked very human and very boring.
It was a mixed crowd of hippies, young wanna be's, the elderly, bikers and strange country boys like me and my brothers.
Of course all eyes were on Annie Cosmic when we entered and sat down. She truly was the most devastatingly beautiful creature I had ever laid eyes on in any universe or galaxy.
We ordered our food and began talking about nothing important.
It happened so quickly that both of us didn't even notice. The restaurant slid into an alternative universe.
Outside the landscape had changed dramatically. Everything was alive with color and life. Every inch was alive with the power and presence of life. It was magnificent. Annie and I were both looking out the big window not realizing that we were and that everyone else was also. The waitress was standing by our table holding our plates of food mesmerized with what was on the other side of the panes. “Isn't it amazing. I've only seen it once before. It's just memorizing. Oh hell, i'm sorry here are your plates. Enjoy.”
Se never stopped gazing out the window as she put our plates down. Annie and I would not be able to argue with her. The view was impressive.
As all of us continued on with our tasks of cooking food, serving food and eating food we all kept our gaze at the landscape outside the windows. The color was brilliant and covered the entire spectrum of colors known to the human eye. They all blended and meshed together to form a hallucination of hills, trees and flowers.
Annie and I took our gaze away long enough to acknowledge to each other that the rest of the place was doing exactly the same thing as we were. It was mystifying.
Annie and I simultaneously looked back out our window when we were almost knocked out of our seats by a human being in a black suit smashing into the window like a fly on the windshield of a car. It was the combination of a thud and spat.
The human form was momentarily stuck to the glass and then began sliding down leaving a trail of blood and snot on the window.
We hadn't noticed but the waitress was sill at our table, “Ah shit, there's another one of those pesky varmints. Hang on folks I’ll take care of it.”
She walked away and returned with a big squidgy brush and went outside and started cleaning the blood and body fluids off the window. Before she was done three more of these creatures smashed into the window.
While this was going on three images appeared in the middle of the restaurant. They were very tall women, well resembling women with robes over their heads and body in the colors of black,, gray and purple. Their faces were of Africa nature but there was something different about their appearance. They looked alien.
The three images floated over to our table and started singing a strange beautiful melody that didn't have words, instead it was just sounds that resembled different levels of pitches that both Annie and I immediately noticed was creating sensations inside of us. Before we knew it we were being lifted out of our seats by the melodic sounds. It was like being lifted to the heavens.
Annie and I were hypnotized by the sounds and the movement and we didn't notice that the three female aliens had transported us far from the restaurant and the earth that we were familiar with and we found ourselves in an alternative universe which was the one that we had been looking at outside the window of the restaurant.
When we had been gazing outside the window we didn't really notice buildings. It all seemed like a psychedelic view of nature. Like looking at hills and trees and the colors were all wild and alive. Now we saw the buildings like ice sculptures behind the landscapes. We were lifted and transported into one of the buildings and dropped into a couch type of thing facing a very large desk that resembled to me an old mission desk but instead of wood it looked to be made of glass.
Annie and I were set on a raised floor so that we could see across the desk at the unbelievable little man sitting behind the desk with two of the tall women with him. One on each side.
He spoke with a voice that was deep and pure, “Hello Annie, been a long time and I am guessing this is the man they call Gunnar. Welcome to the planet Dearth. We are the complete opposite planet of your earth. We have complete consciousness here. There is not hate or petty ridiculousness. There are no wars or violence. We have no need for rules or laws. Every living creature understands it's connection to everything. It took the animal kingdom to bring this to light for us. Something your planet is beginning to look at but you are only scratching the surface at this point. You have already met my angels. They serenaded you to our beautiful world.”
I sat silent, wasn't sure what to think or what to say. Annie was also quiet. The out of nowhere she started in, “Listen you little Dweeb. I remember you now. You are a real little parasite. You re able to fabricate hallucinations in peoples minds and make them think something that isn't there which Is, i'm guessing what you are doing now. Then while they are mesmerized by this dream like utopia that you create your so called angels rob them blind. I ought to rip your fat little...”
Annie stood up and was ready to jump over the desk when she was grabbed by two more of the angels that seemed to come out of nowhere and was thrown back into the chair and strapped in. They also strapped me in.
I have seen Annie Cosmic take on monsters the size of a dump truck and never flinch and these two angel things threw her around like a sack of dog food. I was both horrified and impressed. Annie looked noticeably worried.
The little man behind the desk was now standing on top of the desk and he roared down at us, “How dare you confront the all mighty ruler of Dearth. I am Shilo. I am God. I am the almighty and you are mere peasants of a lesser planet!”
Annie and I both started giggling uncontrollably at the little man with the gigantic voice. His pants were to long and his shirt was too short and a little belly shook at you roared. His head was beet red attached to a white body, “I will have you both bbq'd and eat your bones for dinner!”
Annie finally spoke, “Listen Dearth I'm sorry. I can't believe you named the planet after yourself. Come on. Couldn't you be more creative.”
Dearth seemed to settle right down, “I didn't have a lot of time Annie. I need your help.”
Annie spoke, “Well you ain't getting anything out of me until you take these straps off of us.”
Dearth spoke, “Not yet Annie. I don't trust that you won't try to hurt me again. The last time you decided to hurt me I ended up in a hospital bed and had three casts on. No, no for now I need you right where you are.”
I looked over at Annie, “When did you know this little twit?”
Dearth spoke again, “Ah Annie, keeping secres from your lver. Not goo thing to do. Especially the kind of secrets that you are keeping. So you don't know who Annie Cosmic is Gunnar. You actually don't know what Dear Annie is. You poor batard.”
Annie didn't let him finish. I heard the snapping of her restraints breaking as she growl, “I'm gonna kill you, you little freak!”
It too seven of the tall angels to subdue Annie but they had her back in the chair with the straps back on.
Dearth spoke, “I won't tell him. It's not my place. At least for now.
I let my mind drift to all the times and experiences that Annie and I had shared together and nothing gave me any clue as to who she was or where she came from. I never until now gave it any thought. Annie was there when she was there. Hell I wasn't sure what was real and what was fantasy and for all I know it all could be fantasy. I just lived it for the moment.
At some point the angels had administered into Annie and my systems something that made u sleep.
I fell into a dreamless deep sleep. Nothing but a darkness that was so pitch black that it was like being in liquid.
When I woke I was laying in my bed surrounded by my things and Annie Cosmic was nowhere to be found.
I had to get ready for dialysis.
I couldn't wait to go back to bed and sleep. My hopes and dreams was that I would find myself right back where I left off, in that other world. The world of Annie Cosmic.
